Ham Sliders with Sriracha Hoisin Mayo

Sweet hoisin, spicy Sriracha and creamy mayo transform leftover ham into a flavor-packed sandwich that won’t taste anything like last nights dinner.
Ham Sliders with Sriracha Hoisin Mayo - The Lemon BowlWhen it comes to holiday meals, I will be the first to admit that I’ve never been a huge roast turkey fan. Don’t get me wrong, I love the way it fills the house with the intoxicating smells of sage, thyme and rosemary but when it comes to the foods I crave and look forward to all year, turkey isn’t on top of the list.

Honey smoked ham, however, is an entirely different story. Perhaps it’s because we only eat it at family gatherings and special occasions but I just love a good ham. It’s a relatively lean cut of meat and is full of smoky, sweet, salty deliciousness.

Ham Sliders with Sriracha Hoisin MayoMy extended family is quite large and, lucky for me, we all live within a 15 minute radius. As a result, when it comes to large get togethers we are always looking for easy crowd-pleasing meals that are affordable, delicious and kid-friendly. As a result, we eat ham sandwiches at least once or twice a year.

If we are lucky, my Aunt Paula makes her famous sweet rolls and my mom gets a ham from Vanden Brink Sweet Smoked Honey Ham, a local butcher across town. Today’s recipe is my Asian-take on the classic ham sandwich. To complement the salty ham, I created a simple Sriracha hoisin mayo with the perfect balance of heat and sweet. KING’S HAWAIIAN ® Dinner Rolls are the closest store-bought roll I could find to my aunt’s homemade buns but let me tell you, they are right on the money.

Of course, I would be lying if I said my aunts would love this Asian version of a ham sandwich but that’s what family traditions are made for – tweaking. :)
