Happy December! The past few weeks adjusting to our new life with a newborn and a busy toddler have FLOWN by. I honestly can’t believe Christmas is just a few weeks away but I am excited to be celebrating as a family of four this year!

As a thank you to all of our readers, I have joined forces with 11 other incredible food bloggers to offer a 12 Day Favorite Things Giveaway. We have all created our own customized gift baskets full of OUR favorite things in the kitchen. Here are my kitchen “must haves” that I am thrilled to be giving away to one lucky reader:

Favorite Things Giveaway Collage - The Lemon BowlStarting at the top going clockwise:

1. EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Food Scale: From weighing flour for holiday baking to weighing out a 1 ounce serving of almonds, I use this food scale almost every day. It takes the guess work out of portion control and allows you to measure in ounces, grams or pounds.

Microplane Grater and Zester2. Microplane Premium Grater/Zester: If you want to kick up the flavor of anything from salad dressing to marinated chicken breasts, raw garlic is your friend. Instead of dirtying a cutting board, knife or garlic press, use a microplane to create the perfect garlic puree that will dissolve into any dish. As a result, no one will end up with a big chunk of raw garlic! Of course, it’s also ideal for grating Parmigiano Reggiano, lemon zest, ginger root and more.

OXO Good Grips Cookie Scoop3. OXO Good Grips Medium Cookie Scoop: I use this cookie scoop every time I bake cookies, muffins or anything else that needs to be consistently measured. In fact, I even use it for filling my pork dumplings. The batter pops right out of the scoop and is much easier to use than two teaspoons. And I don’t know about you but when I bake cookies, I like to make them on the smaller size so that I can eat 2 or 3 vs. just one. :)

OXO Good Grips Salad Dressing Shaker4. OXO Good Grips Salad Dressing Shaker: January is around the corner and chances are you’re going to be eating more salads than ever. Instead of purchasing bottled dressing full of creepy ingredients, artificial sweeteners or corn syrup, why not make your own? It’s so easy to create one big batch of dressing in the beginning of the week and use it all week long. Here are a few of my favorite homemade salad dressings that all take 5 minutes or less to make:

Salads - AvoGreenGoddess
Dill Ranch Dressing

Lebanese/Middle Eastern Salad Dressing with Lemon, Garlic and Mint
Avocado Green Goddess Dressing
Roasted Garlic Vinaigrette

OXO 1:8 Cup Measuring Cup5. OXO Good Grips Adjustable Mini Measuring Cup: I always joke that I would be a size 2 if peanut butter didn’t exist. But, it does. So instead I measure it out into a proper portion. This measuring cup is ideal for measuring sticky ingredients like peanut butter, almond butter, coconut oil and more.

What are your must-have gadgets in the kitchen? I’d love to hear from you.

Happy Holidays!

  1. Nancy Williams says

My “must haves” are a microplane (I use lots of garlic) , my kitchen aid mixer ( making bread dough is a breeze!)

  2. Becky says

I have two most-used, must-haves and I can’t decide “one”! My itty bitty Pampered Chef ice cream scoop (that I use for everything but don’t think I’ve ever used for ice cream) and the other favorite would be a peeler (way back when I used it only for carrots and potatoes; what was I thinking?!) I now use it on chocolate, almond bark, trim excess from chocolate covered “stuff”.

  3. Lani Trezona says

I have a beautiful set of very sharp knives my Mom gave me a couple years ago – they are purple! I love them because they match my kitchen (grape and wine theme), they are sharp and they are fun to use! I could not live without them in my kitchen!

  4. Stephanie says

My must have is my pancake batter bowl it has a spigot on the end like a giant measuring cup then I can pour no drips :-)

  5. Shelby says

I have one cookie scoop — it’s too large for cookies though lol. It is perfect for cupcakes though! I use it all the time. I’d love to win this package that includes a smaller one!

  6. Andrea T. says

My favorite kitchen tool is a little Pampered Chef whisk/blend thingy. It’s great for whisking the lumps out of a cheese sauce, gravy, chocolate milk, etc.

  7. Amber says

My must have kitchen tool lately has been the slow cooker. I love coming home to a nice warm meal during the cold months.

  8. Ann-Marie Stewart says

My favorite gadgets are a microplane grater, pinch bowls (mini-prep bowls), and my new find is the Joseph Joseph Scoop Colander.

  9. Silvia Casanova says

I have never seen that adjustable mini measuring cup. Looks like a useful tool for the kitchen. They all do!

  10. Bridget says

I must have a digital scale, but mine just broke. :-(
I also need a sharp knife, a good peeler, an immersion blender, and lots and lots of heat safe rubber spatulas.

  11. says

My kitchen must-haves = my crockpot (for quick, easy, delicious, make your house smell good meals) & my coffee maker (for myself of course, but also for throwing on a quick pot for catch up time with guests)!

  12. Linda Cieresewski says

My mini blender for my daily Greek yogurt, frozen banana, Kroeze peanut butter and almond milk smoothies!!!

  13. Terri Herbstreith says

Love my Rabbit wine bottle opener, but I think I would have to say I couldn’t live without my Vitamix. I use it almost daily! Besides I will get that cork out one way or another! :)

  14. Corry Oosterhouse says

My favorite gadget in the kitchen is my Kitchen Aid mixer!! It’s going to help mixing the ingredients for the approx. 140 sticks of banket my daughter and I make every year!! So much earlier than doing it all by hand!!:-)

  15. katrina mccoy says

a clean, well organized counter space 😉 that’s my “must have”…..

    utensil-wise, a proper mixing spoon

  16. Brandy says

Sharp knives! My father-in-law sharpens them for us any time he comes to visit…We just have no idea what he does differently to make them shave-able sharp. I have to stop myself from complaining when I’m cooking at other people’s homes and remember that they just don’t have a father-in-law as cool as mine.

  17. Peggy says

Hi. I found your blog via the Food Bloggers Fave Things Giveaway post on What Megan’s Making’s blog. Can’t wait to try your recipes.

  18. Molly Plummer says

My must have is a pampered chef mix and chop. That tool is a perfect way to chop ground beef/chicken/or any type of protein up! Before this I would get hunks of meat that were not as seasoned as others.

  19. Alison says

I do not have yet, but would love to have the essential food processor, stand mixer, or scale in the kitchen. I can keep dreaming.

  20. Rose says

My Cole & Mason electric pepper grinder is a fun kitchen tool… adjustable grind, one-hand use and looks nice, too!

  21. says

Must have kitchen item… hm… probably a stand mixer. I’m a lazy baker! That salad dressing shaker looks sweet though, I’ll have to try it!

  22. Lisa Langley says

Must have in the kitchen? There’s a lot of things that I would consider a must have- but I think the most important is a sharp knife.

  23. Deb says

I have a stand that holds six small wooden cutting boards, fave find, would give as gifts but have never found another.

  24. Skylar S says

I know a lot of people like the KitchenAid stand mixer (which is great for large projects), but I love their hand mixer! It’s so convenient and powerful too. Most of the time I opt for that, more than anything else.

  25. Joanie Dorsey says

A good sharp chef’s knife. I love finding new food blogs! Thanks to this contest, I have found several! YAY!

  26. Julie says

My must have kitchen tool that I use daily is my kitchen scissors. I have a pair to open up “hard to open packages” and a pair to cut meat. The scissors are sometimes better to cut chicken in bite size pieces instead of using a knife.

  27. Ruth says

One of my favorite kitchen tools is my Pampered Chef peeler. The one I had before it was……well it just wasn’t any good.

  28. Mary Cinar says

A must have in my kitchen is the garlic masher. Coming from an Italian background, everything must have garlic lol

  29. KAPP says

I love kitchen gadgets and it takes a long time to collect them all…that is why i am so grateful for this wonderful giveaway oppty. My kitchen must have would be the mini food processor…makes chopping so much easier.

  30. says

I love the cookie scoop–its one of the items I have to have in my kitchen all year round–great for all sorts of things not just cookies! Love your favorite things list!!!

  31. Susan says

I have a whole list of kitchen things I can’t live without: digital scale, measuring cups and spoons (several sets of each), good knives, my Magic Bullet, and my blender.

  32. AMC says

My favorite tool in the kitchen my small cookie scoop. I make cookies for my husband and his unit all the time, it’s a lifesaver!

  33. Virginia says

My favorite kitchen tool is a mini food processor – for everything that I don’t want to drag my full-size food processor out for!

  34. Sara Garcia says

Two must haves are a sharp knife and a cutting board, they are the first thing I grab when i’m preparing to cook.

  35. Elizabeth says

I’m loving my immersion blender right now. It’s definitely come in handy lately since it’s soup season!

  36. Jennie says

My must haves include my Pampered Chef garlic press, kitchen scale, adjustable measuring spoons, and cutting boards.

  37. Amanda says

I think my most used would have to be a plastic spatula… I use that thing for everything!! Only problem is it cleans mixing bowls out so good you have not left over to lick!

  38. Karen D says

If asked that 5 years ago, I would have answered differently, but now my two essentials (which I didn’t even think of using then) are my scan/probe thermometer and my digital scale.

  39. says

I really don’t know how I would fare without an arsenal of kitchen tools, but for some reason I have a major soft spot for my raspberry-colored Oxo rubber spatula. I just love that thing!

  40. Heather says

I always rely on my kitchen shears… however, the gadgets you’ve listed here look like they would get a workout in my kitchen!

  41. Cori R. says

Wooden spoons and wooden cutting board. I’m a big fan of all things bamboo in the kitchen right now. Thanks for a great giveaway package.

  42. Debbie Wall says

I love all my Oxy Good Grips items in my kitchen! I have arthritis in my hands and they help to minimize some of the discomfort.

  43. Jaan L says

My must have gadget? It has to be my grapefruit knife. It really fits the bill when I have to do some fancy cutting.

  44. says

My must have in the kitchen is definitely my mini food processor-it fits in a cabinet so it frees up my small counter space, and works oh so well! Thanks for doing this giveaway, your must – haves look awesome!!

  45. Pam says

My current kitchen tool must-have is my crockpot. Long work hours make a crockpot a necessity. Your favorites are amazing!

  46. Krysta Lowry says

Hmm… I would have to say my Cuisinart pots and pans. Until recently I had cheap, “straight out of college I can’t afford anything else” pots and pans, so to have a nice set that is ACTUALLY non-stick has been so great.

  47. Debbie Lind says

I love my kitchen aid mixer. but i could use the ice cream scoop to make ccokies. Thanks for doing this giveaway

  48. Cory says

My must have kitchen gadget is my immersion blender. I use it for creamed soups, sauces, dips, and smoothies and the best part is I don’t have to dirty any extra bowls or containers.

  49. says

After my KitchenAid Stand Mixer, strangely, the item I depend on most is a vintage sandwich knife. Sounds funny, but my sister scored one for free at an antique shop while buying some other items and we were fighting over the darn thing. She ended up finding a few on eBay later and getting them for us. They have a very thin razor-sharp blade.

  50. Cynthia says

I love my pasta pot which I also use as large stockpot for soups! I can’t believe what a difference it made and wish I had bought one 20 years ago!

  51. Brittany says

My must-have in the kitchen is my mini ice cream scoop. I used to worry about all of my cookie dough balls being the same size because I never wanted to overcook some and undercook others. The scoop makes things so much easier!

  52. Jodi Stewart says

Has to be the KitchenAid Mixer hands down, I use it for nearly all the things I bake and a lot of things I cook as well. It really comes in handy at all times in the kitchen.

  53. Laura says

Spending a little extra on essentials like knives and pans makes a big difference. When cooking and clean up are easier, time in the kitchen is fun.

  54. Amy says

Kitchen Scale for sure! It helps me keep measurements precise and my food portions in check. It’s my #1 Kitchen fave too!
