Maple Walnut Apple Butter Oatmeal

Maple Walnut Apple Butter Oatmeal is a warm, hearty and satisfying breakfast that will give you the fuel you need to start your day.
Apple Butter Maple Oatmeal - The Lemon BowlWe love oatmeal in this house which comes to no surprise since I grew up eating oatmeal throughout my childhood. Perhaps it’s the never ending Michigan winter or the simple fact that my mom has always taught us the importance of starting each morning with whole grains and fruit.

Slow Cooker Ginger Spiced Apple Butter - The Lemon BowlAfter creating the most flavorful, rich apple butter for Michigan Apples recently, I quickly used it to flavor our morning bowl of oats. Fruit is my favorite way to boost the nutrition of a bowl of oats which is why you’ve seen me do it with berries, bananas and even pumpkin.

Maple Syrup Oatmeal with Apple Butter - The Lemon BowlOf course, I couldn’t resist adding a drizzle of pure Michigan maple syrup which we had on hand. It helped balance out the tartness of the apples and added a creamy consistency that transformed the entire dish.

If it’s any indication of how good this turned out, my 2 year old son ate 3 bowls. In fact, I ended up having to make a second batch so that I could eat some.

This oatmeal looks so good! Of course, I’ll use fresh Ontario apples and maple syrup (grin). Thanks neighbour!

Thanks so much for this healthy & delicious recipe Liz! As a new mom, this is super easy to make, healthy, and I can eat it one handed, which has become key. I had some left over dates so I threw those in after the oatmeal was cooked. Thanks again!
