Earlier this year I launched Healthy Habits, a special corner of The Lemon Bowl where I discuss a variety of healthy living topics based on my experiences and personal journey towards weight loss success. So far we have covered everything from Falling Off the Diet and Exercise Wagon to Restaurant Survival Guide to Tips for Creating an Exercise Routine and more.
As a proud Udi’s Gluten Free Living Ambassador, I will be starting a new series of posts covering a variety of topics centered around gluten free lifestyles. Whether you suffer from celiac disease, have a child who has gluten allergies or simply choose to eat less gluten for health reasons, I hope these topics are helpful and informative.
To kick things off, I am talking Basics of Living Gluten Free. Full disclosure: I do not follow a strictly gluten free diet. In fact, I have probably consumed more wheat, bread and gluten during this pregnancy than any time in my life (hello carb cravings!!) :) That being said, I have eliminated gluten entirely from my diet and know first-hand how hard it can be to safely navigate through a gluten-filled world.
Just about everyone I know who discovers they need to remove gluten from their diet goes into panic mode initially. Questions start racing through their heads: How will I cook dinner for the family? What will my child eat at a birthday party? Will I ever get to enjoy pizza again? These fears are completely normal but I urge you to relax, take a deep breath and know that you are not alone.
Visit a few grocery stores in your area and see who has the best gluten free selection. Don’t be afraid to speak up and ask for a manager or request specific products. Most stores want to please their customers and will be happy to stock the products you need. Health food stores and the internet are also great resources.
If you are looking to replace your everyday favorites like sandwich bread, hamburger buns or even muffins, be sure to check out Udi’s Gluten Free line of products. As someone who doesn’t have to eliminate wheat from her diet, I can assure you that Udi’s tastes just as good as the gluten-filled versions.
Don’t these look delicious? I promise you these Chewy Chocolate Brownies with Walnuts and Coconut Oil are so good, no one will know the are completely gluten free.
