Oranges dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with sea salt is a simple, show-stopping dessert that is naturally gluten free and vegan-friendly.

Chocolate Dipped Citrus with Sea Salt - The Lemon Bowl

Citrus and chocolate are one of my favorite flavor combinations and one I grew up enjoying quite frequently thanks to my beautiful mother. Without fail, whenever we go out for ice cream she orders a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of lemon ice cream in the same dish.

Whether you’re looking for a flour-less Passover dessert, a make-ahead Easter treat, or just want a healthy snack you can feel good about, you will love these Chocolate Dipped Oranges with Sea Salt. They couldn’t be any easier to make and they are a fun activity to get the kids in the kitchen if you trust them around a bowl of melted chocolate.

Drying Citrus Fruit - The Lemon Bowl

One tip I’ve learned is to dry the oranges thoroughly before dipping in the chocolate. I’ve found that chocolate has a hard time adhering to wet fruit so I like to line my citrus wedges on a bit of paper towel before getting down to chocolate dipping business.

Hey, it’s a rough job! But someone has to do it….

Ingredients

  • 4 oranges peeled and separated into wedges (any citrus fruit will work including clementines, mandarines and grapefruit)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips use Enjoy Life for vegan-friendly
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • sea salt for sprinkling optional

Instructions

  1. Peel citrus fruit and lay out on a paper towel to remove any excess moisture.
  2. Place chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl and heat until melted, stirring every 30-45 seconds. Depending on the power of your microwave, this should only take a couple minutes.
  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. One at a time, dip half of each orange wedge into the melted chocolate then lay flat on prepared baking sheet.
  4. Repeat until you’ve dipped all of the fruit. Sprinkle lightly with sea salt.
  5. Refrigerate pan to allow fruit to cool and chocolate to harden for 60 minutes before serving.

Liz’s Notes

To make ahead of time, simply store chilled chocolate-dipped fruit in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before serving.
As you can see, I used a variety of citrus fruits including oranges, grape fruit and mandarines.

    Hi Liz,

    Stunningly pretty.

As a gardener……I don’t mind letting the kids get a bit dirty so I will gladly make these with them for a fun activity.

But…..I’m licking the chocolate bowl =)
