After months of researching, day-dreaming, brainstorming and hours of behind-the-scenes technical work, I am so thrilled to finally introduce you to the brand new look and feel of The Lemon Bowl!
When I set out to re-design my website, I had two main objectives: improved reader functionality and a modern, clean design that accurately reflects my brand.
The results of the reader survey I conducted over the summer was an incredible resource in helping me accomplish the first goal. To the hundreds of you that took the time to fill it out, I can’t thank you enough for all of your detailed, thoughtful and extremely kind feedback. There is nothing more important to me than having a useful website for my readers so thank you for helping me do just that.
Whether this is your first time visiting my website or you have been here since the beginning, I want to take a moment to point out a few new features of The Lemon Bowl:
As of 2014, over 60% of my readers are on a mobile device (hopefully reading from their kitchens while cooking something tasty!) The Lemon Bowl now has a fully mobile responsive theme which means that whether you’re on a smart phone or tablet, the website will automatically become optimized to best fit your screen. This new theme means an improved user experience with easier-to-access content, more photos and less ads. To access all of the pages, simply use the pull down menu at the top of the page.
Ingredient Search Function
Whether you’re looking for a new way to cook cauliflower or have chia seeds sitting in your pantry but don’t know how to use them, the new Recipe Index is here to help. From asparagus to za’atar and everything in between, cooking healthy food has never been easier. After all, it doesn’t matter how nutritious food is if you aren’t eating it.
Healthy Habits: Fitness, Nutrition and Weight Loss
Reader survey results made it loud and clear: you love the Healthy Habits section on The Lemon Bowl and want to see more. I’ve already begun brainstorming future topics that I will be sharing soon but to make it even easier for you to access existing content, we added a drop-down menu from the home page so you can quickly access three popular topics: Fitness, Nutrition and Weight Loss.
We also added a tab to my personal weight loss journey directly on the side bar for new readers who may be in need of a little inspiration as they embark or continue on their own path to living a healthier lifestyle.
Visual Recipe Index
In today’s Pinterest-obsessed world, it only makes sense that you want to see more photos and less text. To give you even easier access to the 650+ recipes shared on The Lemon Bowl, we designed a Recipe Index that features more images and less text. Your recent feedback also told me that you want more Middle Eastern, Gluten Free and Slow Cooker Recipes so those categories can now be accessed directly from the home page.
Of course, NONE of this would have been possible without the hard work, patience and talent of Shay Bocks, my graphic designer and web developer. If you are ever in need of a web designer, I can not recommend Shay enough. She took my rough draft of a dream and turned it into a beautiful reality and I could not be more thrilled with the result.
So what do you think? Did we create a highly functional, beautiful and easy-to-use website? Are you inspired to cook delicious food that just so happens to be good for you? Let me know what you think and of course, please don’t hesitate to tell me if you think we missed the mark.
Your fork is waiting.
