As a relatively new mom raising two young boys under the age of 3, I have a lot of respect for the woman responsible for this delicious Lemon-Lime Sports Ade recipe. Jessica Fisher, author of Best 100 Juices for Kids, is not only a successful blogger, writer and former teacher but she is also homeschooling, work from home mother of SIX children. Six! Impressive, right?

I met Jessica last year when I attended Camp Blogaway in Southern California. After hearing her speak at a breakout session titled “Strategies for Keeping Your Blog Going and Not Running Out of Steam” I immediately ran over to introduce myself. Needless to say, Jessica is wicked smaht.

Of course, I couldn’t pass up this tart, tangy and slightly sweet Lemon-Lime Sports Ade. I love that she adds sea salt to balance out the flavors and add a bit of sodium to replenish nutrients after a sports practice, dance class or soccer match. Not only is this version of your favorite sports drink ridiculously easy to make but it is much more affordable than the store-bought version.

This lemon-lime drink tastes like the bottled or powdered version I enjoyed as a child. Inexpensive to mix up, it’s delightfully refreshing. Use freshly squeezed juices for the best flavor.

Ingredients
 

  • 3 ½ cups water
  • 6 tablespoons Honey Syrup (see below)
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt

Honey Syrup

  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup water

Instructions
 

  • In a pitcher, whisk together the water, honey syrup, lemon and lime juices, and salt.
  • Store in a covered jar or container in the refrigerator. Serve chilled.
  • To make honey syrup, combine the honey and water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring to dissolve the honey completely.
  • Remove honey syrup from the heat and let cool completely. Store in a covered container in the refrigerator.

  1. love this (because I’m not a favor Gatorade for kids all the time.) I live fresh strawberries I picked myself!

  2. I guess I’m pretty basic, but my favorite fruit to add is Banana and I love sneaking in Spinach. Apples are also good and so are strawberries (which are amazing to add with bananas and Spinach!)

  3. this sounds so refreshing!! I’ll be stirring up a pitcher ASAP.
    I don’t know how to add fruit so that it gives my drinks any flavor… maybe I don’t let them sit long enough? Strawberries and cucumbers are my favorites.

  4. I love adding spinach to smoothies. I haven’t done much with juicing, but I love the taste of fresh squeezed orange juice.

  5. I’m just getting into juicing and this book looks great. So far we like carrots, apples, and ginger best. I’m looking forward to experimenting with different homemade lemonades this summer.

  6. Thanks for the idea! I like to add blueberries… fresh when available and frozen during during the off season.

  7. Strawberries create a texture I really like. I’ve never tried greens in my smoothies – my blender isn’t the greatest and I can just imagine terrible chunks of spinach. Yuck.
