Maple Walnut Apple Butter Oatmeal is a warm, hearty and satisfying breakfast that will give you the fuel you need to start your day.
We love oatmeal in this house which comes to no surprise since I grew up eating oatmeal throughout my childhood. Perhaps it’s the never ending Michigan winter or the simple fact that my mom has always taught us the importance of starting each morning with whole grains and fruit.
After creating the most flavorful, rich apple butter for Michigan Apples recently, I quickly used it to flavor our morning bowl of oats. Fruit is my favorite way to boost the nutrition of a bowl of oats which is why you’ve seen me do it with berries, bananas and even pumpkin.
Of course, I couldn’t resist adding a drizzle of pure Michigan maple syrup which we had on hand. It helped balance out the tartness of the apples and added a creamy consistency that transformed the entire dish.
If it’s any indication of how good this turned out, my 2 year old son ate 3 bowls. In fact, I ended up having to make a second batch so that I could eat some.
