The one simple trick that will help turn your New Year’s Resolutions into permanent healthy lifestyle changes.
Why hello 2015! Where have you been all my life? Don’t get me wrong, 2014 was an incredible year, but I am so excited for January’s arrival. The holidays have been a bit of a disaster when it comes to losing the last 10 pounds of the weight I gained while pregnant with Jacob.
Losing the last 10 pounds is never easy. Trust me, I know: I did it the first time I reached my goal weight, did it a second time after having Asher and am determined to do it a third time. But I would be lying if I said it gets any easier. In fact, I’m pretty confident it only gets harder each time.
However, I’m not losing hope. I’ve lost 49 pounds over the last year and that’s no small feat. The great thing about losing weight is that unlike so many other situations in life, it is 100% in my control. In a life full of uncertainties, isn’t it refreshing to know that if we want to lose weight we can take certain measures to make it happen?
Whether you’re looking to lose a certain percentage of body weight to prevent disease, have more energy or simply fit back into your skinny jeans, today I’m sharing one simple trick to help you stick with your resolutions well past January.
Are you ready for it? It’s quite simple: Focus on what you CAN have, not what you can’t. If you’re looking to eat a higher protein diet, don’t focus on all the pizza, pasta and cookies you can’t eat. Instead, focus on all of the foods you CAN eat like nuts, seafood, beef, yogurt and more. Want to eat less meat and more plant-based protein? There are endless options including farro, spelt, freekeh, chickpeas, lentils…the list goes on.
By spending a little time online researching new ingredients, looking for new recipes and finding inspiration in the kitchen, you are focusing on the up-side and keeping your head in a happy, positive mental space. As a result, you are less likely to get discouraged and quit which often results in moving two steps forward, ten steps back. It’s all in your head. No really, it’s all in your head. So get out of your own way and focus on the can, not the can’t.
To help you get motivated about embracing a healthier new year, I am excited to announce that I’ve teamed up with my dear friend Dara to host the inaugural Healthy New Year 6-Week Challenge! Each week we will be focusing on a different topic to help guide you to a healthier, happier lifestyle.
