27 Steel Cut Oatmeal Recipes - The Lemon Bowl

Steel cut oats have a special place in my heart. From the minute I could hold a spoon, I have been eating steel cut oatmeal. My beautiful mother made them for me and my sisters on a very regular basis along with buckwheat pancakes, shredded wheat or cream of wheat.

As an adult, I now crave the chewy, nutty texture of steel cut oats. Don’t get me wrong, I love old fashioned oats as well but there is just something extra special about taking the time to prepare steel cut oats in all of their whole grain, un-rolled glory.

In honor of Bob’s Red Mill Spar for the Spurtle contest, I thought I would inspire you to get in the kitchen with a collection of steel cut oatmeal recipes. Whether you prefer cold, overnight refrigerator oats or making a big batch in the slow cooker or any version in between, this collection is sure to get you hungry.

    1. I don’t know what took me so long to find this post, but I could happily spend weeks trying out all of these recipes now – steel cut oats are my favorite! I’ve always wanted to participate in the Spar for the Spurtle. Thanks so much for including one of mine in this delicious list!

    2. Why Oatmeal is always sweet? I love salty Oatmeal pancakes, waffle and tortillas served with veggies. Must try for weight loss.

    3. I filed this away and didn’t get around to pinning it until today, and I noticed that it’s been pinned 2K+ times already! Local girl makes it big- congrats :) And I’m with you- I love oatmeal, and steel cut especially.

    4. love steel cut oatmeal and your recipes are so refreshing, thank you. Love your page and your updates in email. Have a great week xoxo

    5. Hey Liz, these are amazing varieties. I got that overnight oatmeal recipe first from Jack’s show on youtube. He used milk and/or yogurt and added in some mango bits. I did it myself with mango and banana bits overload, and oh boy was it so good.

    6. What a sure fire way to get my mouth watering first thing in the morning! I agree about that special, nutty texture and taste of steel cut oats. It’s something that really look forward to!
Thanks so much for sharing my recipe, Liz! Now I’m off to make a bowl of that apple cinnamon version from Spoonful of Flavor. YUM!
