This versatile, all-purpose dry steak rub is delicious on any cut of beef (or chicken for that matter!) Ideal for grilling steaks or throwing steaks under the broiler.

Is there anything better than a perfectly grilled, juicy steak? Not if you ask me, that’s for sure! I can’t help it, I’m a beef lover through and through.

Whenever we grill or broil steaks at home, I like to whip up a quick and easy dry rub to massage into the beef before throwing it on the grill.

Using basic pantry spices, my dry steak rub has a balanced flavor profile of sweet, salty, smoky and spicy ingredients including brown sugar, smoked paprika and cayenne (for a kick.) If you want to keep the rub mild, simply omit the cayenne.

Once the dry steak rub has had at least 30 minutes to absorb, prepare your steak however you wish. I love to throw mine on the grill and cook until it reaches medium (light pink in middle), about 7-8 minutes per side.

Frequently asked questions:

How far in advance should a dry steak rub be applied?

How far in advance should a dry steak rub be applied?

Other spices that can be added to a dry steak rub?

These are just a few of my favorite spices but other great ideas are cumin, oregano, crushed fennel or coriander.

How long will a spice rub last?

It’s always a great idea to double or triple this recipe and keep the spice rub in an air-tight container to use at a later time. It will stay fresh for up to 3 months if you’re starting with fresh spices.

Your fork is waiting.
