Since so many of you love my Szechuan Green Beans and Ground Turkey recipe, I thought I would offer another tasty Asian inspired dish with similar flavors. These Szechuan Beef Lettuce Wraps are not only easy to make but they’re naturally low carb, high-protein, and super fun to eat!

Similar to ground turkey, sirloin is a blank canvas and since it’s pretty lean, you really need to load up on the flavor to make this dish stand out. Fresh ginger, garlic, hoisin and sesame oil are all great ways to turn boring ground beef into something special.

Ingredients

Labeled ingredients for Szechuan Beef Lettuce Wraps on a white counter.

  • For the sauce: Chicken broth, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and rice vinegar.
  • For the wrap: Bibb lettuce, scallions, and roasted peanuts.

How to Make Szechuan Beef Lettuce Wraps

Breaking up ground beef in a skillet.

Step 1. Heat some sesame oil in a skillet with the garlic, ginger, and chili paste. Once fragrant, add the ground beef.

Stirring szechuan beef in skillet.

Step 2. Cook until browned, breaking up the beef with a wooden spoon.

Whisking together lettuce wrap sauce in a liquid measuring cup.

Step 3. While beef is cooking, whisk together your sauce, then pour it over the cooked beef.

Assemble your lettuce wraps by putting the Szechuan beef in the lettuce cup, top with fresh herbs, green onions, and roasted peanuts. I also like to squeeze some fresh lime juice over the top. Serve and enjoy your Szechuan Beef Lettuce Wraps!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Szechuan beef lettuce wraps spicy?

They have a mild to moderate heat thanks to chili paste and Szechuan-style flavors, but you can easily adjust the spice level by adding more or less chili paste.

Can I use a different protein instead of beef for these lettuce wraps?

Absolutely! Ground chicken, turkey, or pork all work well and absorb the bold Szechuan flavors beautifully.

What type of lettuce works best for lettuce wraps?

Butter lettuce, Boston lettuce, bibb lettuce, or iceberg lettuce work best because they’re sturdy, flexible, and perfect for holding the beef filling without tearing.
