Make the ultimate 90-second microwave oatmeal with old-fashioned oats, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla. A quick, creamy, and healthy breakfast ready in minutes!

Cold weather begs for a warm and hearty breakfast. In our house, that usually means we rotate between my how to freeze and reheat pancakes recipe and this recipe or my how to make your own instant oatmeal.
While I’ve shared countless oatmeal recipes with you over the years, it dawned on me that I’ve never shared the one recipe I make most: The ULTIMATE 90 Second Microwave Oatmeal. Not only is oatmeal extremely nutritious and versatile, but it is also gluten-free!
Ingredients

- Oats: Old-fashioned or rolled outs are the way to go! Steel-cut oats won’t cook, and quick oats will get too mushy.
- Milk: I prefer milk over water, and use whole milk in my oatmeal for healthy fats. You could also use dairy-free milk like almond milk.
- Cinnamon: Adds antioxidants and sweet, warm spice to the oatmeal.
- Vanilla: A natural flavor enhancer.
- Salt: Just a pinch of salt is all you need!
How to Make 90 Second Microwave Oatmeal

Step 1. Start by adding your dry oats to a microwave safe bowl.

Step 2. Then add the milk over the top.

Step 3. Next add the vanilla.

Step 4. Followed by the cinnamon and pinch of salt.

Step 5. Stir it together, then toss in the microwave for 90 seconds, stirring halfway through.

Step 6. Give a final stir, and toss back in if you want the oats softer. Otherwise it’s ready for toppings!

Top with your favorite fruits, nuts, nut butters, or natural sweeteners. Serve, and enjoy your 90 Second Microwave Oatmeal!

Frequently Asked Questions
The best toppings (in my opinion) for oatmeal are peanut butter for protein, berries, oats, banana slices, chia seeds, almonds (or other nuts), or raisins.
Use a large microwave-safe bowl and leave plenty of space for the oats to expand. Stirring halfway through cooking can also help prevent overflow.
I personally like thicker oatmeal, so do more of a 1:1 ratio. But you could do 1/2 cup rolled oats to ¾–1 cup liquid to create a creamier, softer oatmeal.
