This Carrot Apple Ginger Green Smoothie in the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors to start your day right.

Green smoothies are all the rage in my kitchen. I know a lot of people worry, “Will I taste the spinach?” The answer? Nope! At least not with the proper ingredients and flavors. The key to any green smoothie is a balance of sweet and tangy flavors, and that’s exactly what you’ll achieve with my Carrot Apple Ginger Green Smoothie.
Ingredients:
- Banana: Naturally sweet and creamy, if you use a frozen banana you’ll need less ice.
- Apple: To help balance out some of the tartness, I like to use a sweeter apple like a Fuji or gala, but you can use a green apple as well.
- Carrot: A little more on the sweet side when it comes to veggies, carrots are full of nutrients like potassium and vitamin C. Use baby carrots, or cut up some medium carrots.
- Protein powder: Packing in the protein will help to keep you feeling full until lunch. Use a plant based protein powder to keep this smoothie vegan and vegetarian.
- Vanilla: Vanilla extract adds just a bit of sweetness and flavor enhancer.
- Lemon juice: The bright, acidic flavor helps to balance out the smoothie.
- Spinach: While raw spinach can be slightly bitter, the greens are full of iron and other nutrients, and the taste gets overpowered by the other ingredients.
- Flax seed meal: Mostly flavorless, but adds lots of nutrients, especially omega-3 fatty acids and fiber.
- Ginger: Raw, fresh ginger is pungent, a bit spicy, and adds a real zing to the smoothie, while also being great for digestive health.
How to Make a Carrot Apple Ginger Green Smoothie

Start your smoothie by cutting and preparing all of the produce. Core and chop your apples, peel and cut the carrots, peel the banana, and slice your ginger.

Then put all of the fruit and vegetables in your blender.

Then add the final touches. Add flax seed meal to the top.

Along with the fresh ginger root and fresh lemon juice. For a bit more of a zing and immunity boost, add some fresh turmeric, too!

Finish with the protein powder, then add some water and ice cubes.

Blend away until smooth! Add more water if too thick, or add ice if too thin.

Pour evenly into glasses, sip, and enjoy this delicious and nutritious Apple Carrot Ginger Green Smoothie.
Easy Substitutions
- Swap the greens: Instead of spinach, use kale, celery, or whatever you have in your fridge!
- Make it creamier: Add plain Greek yogurt to amp up the protein and creaminess, or use coconut milk to keep it dairy free.
