Sweet and Salty Trail Mix - The Lemon Bowl

If you’ve ever driven with little ones in tow, you know that road snacks are essential. And if your kids are anything like mine, they go through them quickly!

Toddler-Friendly Road Trip Snacks - The Lemon Bowl

To celebrate the kick-off of summer road trips, my friends at Discount Tire asked me to share a quick, easy and healthy snack for the busy travel season. This Sweet and Salty Trail Mix is not only fun to make but is a great excuse to get those little ones in the kitchen to help you make a batch.

Homemade Fruit and Nut Trail Mix - The Lemon Bowl

My boys love berries so we used dried blueberries and strawberries but feel free to use your favorite fruits. Raisins, figs, apricots or cherries would all be fantastic. Pistachios, peanuts and dark-chocolate covered almonds add heart-healthy fats and a boost of protein to give you energy and keep you satisfied between meals while on the road.

Nature Walk - The Lemon Bowl

Travel Tip: If your journey has you spending long hours in the car, make it a point to find a park or nature trail along your route. It’s a great way to let the kids burn off energy and the fresh air will give the adults a little energy boost to stay focused for the rest of the drive.

Chocolate Berry Trail Mix - The Lemon Bowl

Have fun with this trail mix recipe and make it your own! It will last up to three weeks when stored in an air-tight container, perfect for stashing in the car for when cravings strike.

No forks required.

Wow this trail mix is a necessity for hikes and long car rides! I would use milk chocolate-covered almonds with apricots and dried apples.

i could eat this snack mix for lunch :) my kids live for snacks in the car!! And so true about finding a spot to burn off energy. I usually try to make it a point to pack sandwiches and stop somewhere to eat them outside instead of in car, we all usually need the break!
