Avocado Blueberry Baby Smoothie

by Liz DellaCroce · 18 comments

My 10 month old loves smoothies and has been enjoying them for several months now.  Typically, they are a great way for mommy to buy some time while baby feeds himself breakfast.

On a good day, smoothie time can provide mommy with 10-15 minutes of freedom to drink a cup of coffee or, gasp, prepare her own breakfast.

All of that changed with today’s Avocado Blueberry Smoothie. It was gone in 2 minutes. Literally. I turned away to pour myself a cup of coffee and by the time I turned around it was half gone.

If you have never added avocado to a smoothie, I encourage you to give it a try.  The rich, creamy fruit provides a smooth texture to any smoothie and fills your body with heart-healthy fats. For more on the health benefits of avocado, check out my Avocado Egg Sandwich recipe.

Your baby is waiting.

Love this! E doesn’t like avocado chunks or guacamole, but she would down this like it was nobody’s business.

It’s in every grocery store near the baking aisle next to corn meal, gluten free items, etc. I buy Bob’s Red Mill.

Do you think I can substitute breastmilk for the water? My daughter will not take a bottle of a cup at daycare so I’m trying to find ways to sneak milk in.

Thanks for the great idea! My baby is 17 and I still have to sneak fruits and veg into his meals…he’s strictly meat and potatoes. He recently agreed to try smoothies so I’m excited to add another healthy ingredient!

Quaker oats – old fashioned! That’s what we’ve been using as well. :) Enjoy!

I found the same with my toddler. I add avocado too, flax seeds, spinach, baobab powder and sometimes quinoa powder, which I grind from uncooked quinoa. It’s a great way of getting good stuff in them.

Can’t wait to make this for my twin 15 month old boys! And one for myself too! Where do you find whole fat yogurt? Thanks!

Let me know what they think!! Whole fat yogurt is in the yogurt aisle – just make sure it doesn’t say low fat, fat free or reduced fat. It usually says “whole milk plain.” Good luck!!

Your smoothies sound great. I am going to try with coconut milk yogurt as my daughter is allergic to cows milk

This sounds delicious :) My 14 month old has a smoothie nearly everyday & avocado makes it the perfect texture. However, I have to sit there & hold her cup the whole time because she drinks it from a regular straw. None of her sippy cups work with it. (and I don’t make them terribly thick) Would you mind telling me what cups you use?
