These lime baked tortilla chips are light and crunchy, gluten-free, and tasty! The ultimate healthy snack recipe.

Dipping lime baked tortilla chips in salsa.

We hold on to summer vacation with all our might here in Michigan. But the planning mom side of my brain knows I need to start preparing for after school snacks, and when I make them at home, I can control the quality! These Lime Baked Tortilla Chips are delicious with any dip, only made with 4 ingredients, and healthier than the store-bought alternative! Perfect for scooping up my protein packed baked hummus dip, white bean dip or hummus with ground lamb.

Ingredients

  • Tortillas: To keep the chips gluten-free, use corn tortillas. Otherwise, you can use flour tortillas.
  • Olive oil: I like to use olive oil as it’s heart healthy and mild in flavor, but you can use avocado oil or canola oil if you prefer.
  • Salt: I like the coarseness sea salt gives to the chips, along with the depth of flavor.
  • Lime: Both fresh lime juice and zest is used to give these chips a bright, acidic, lime flavor.

How to make Lime Baked Tortilla Chips

Start your lime baked tortilla chips by cutting your tortillas into triangles using a sharp knife. You could also use a pizza slicer if that’s easier!

Then take your tortilla triangles and put them in a large bowl. Drizzle them with oil and sea salt, then toss until evenly coated.

Then lay the chips in a single layer on a baking sheet or two, and bake in the oven at 350 for about 20 minutes. You’ll know they’re done when they are crispy and golden brown.

While chips are baking, zest and juice your lime to have it ready to season the chips.

Once removed from the oven and slightly cooled, top chips with a sprinkle of lime juice and lime zest. Serve with your favorite dip, and enjoy your Lime Baked Tortilla Chips! If you don’t finish them, simply keep them in an airtight container for up to a week.

Chip Variations

  • Make it sweet. Instead of sprinkling with salt and lime, try sprinkling them with cinnamon sugar for something sweet!
  • Keep it savory. Instead of lime, add some garlic powder with the salt or fresh cracked pepper.

Frequently Asked Questions

What chips are best for nachos?

Everyone is going to have their own opinion, but I think a thicker chip is best so you can pick up as many toppings as you’d like without it breaking. I’m also partial to triangles or tortilla strips!

Why do people add lime to their food?

For flavor! While it also adds some nutrients like vitamin C, it mostly just tastes good.

What pairs well with tortilla chips?

Oh tortilla chips are great with all sorts of things! Salsa, guacamole, ceviche, and hummus are some of my favorite pairings.

I love that these are made with corn tortillas! I can pick a brand that I know is safely gluten-free to make these. I love the Sabra hummus but haven’t found the Sabra guacamole yet! I’m going to look for it this week.
