Smoothies are always popular in my house and for good reason: they’re portable, nutritious, and extremely versatile. In fact, it’s no surprise that my Blueberry Kale Protein Smoothie is one of my most popular recipes.

Summer is still go time in my home, so I figured we could all use a little caffeine boost to power us through. My blended Coffee Banana Protein Smoothie is inspired by those sinfully decadent frappes from your favorite local coffee shop, and gives you that caffeine kick while keeping you cool!

Ingredients

  • Milk: Acts as the base of the smoothie. I usually use skim, but you can use any non-dairy milk like oat, almond or any plant-based milk.
  • Yogurt: Makes the smoothie thicker, and adds protein.
  • Banana: Naturally sweetens the smoothie. Use frozen bananas to make it thicker.
  • Espresso powder: Gives you the caffeine kick and coffee flavor.
  • Cocoa Powder: Full of antioxidants, and adds a subtle chocolate flavor
  • Protein powder: You can use flavorless collagen powder, or chocolate or vanilla flavored protein powder.

How to Make Coffee Banana Protein Smoothie

Step 1. Start by peeling your banana and getting the rest of your ingredients out.

Milk in a glass with cocoa powder and espresso powder floating on top.

Step 2. Put all ingredients in your blender and blend until smooth. You can also put them all straight into your glass, and then use an immersion blender to mix.

Add ice to thicken, or more milk to thin it out. Add honey or maple syrup if you like it a little bit sweeter, and enjoy your Coffee Banana Protein Smoothie!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I put coffee in my protein smoothie?

Yes! While I use espresso powder, you could just add regular coffee and mix.

Can you put fruit in coffee?

There are plenty of coffee drinks that pair fruit with coffee, and coffee smoothies are great! Banana, berries, and citrus fruits all taste great in coffee drinks.

Can you make this smoothie ahead of time?

While I wouldn’t make it more than a few hours before I planned on drinking it, if you have a bullet blender or something similar, you could put all of the ingredients in the cup the night before, and then just quickly blend in the morning.
