This bright and refreshing orange ginger detox smoothie is filled with bright citrus, fresh ginger, and flax seeds. The perfect on-the-go healthy breakfast or snack recipe!

One of the many benefits of starting your day off with a healthy smoothie is that you can adapt your go-to recipe with whatever fruits and veggies are in season.

In the spring that means strawberry smoothies, in the summer I love using peaches and in the fall I like to work with pumpkin. As we head deeper into winter, citrus fruits like oranges are ideal for naturally sweetening your morning smoothie.

For this Carrot Orange Detox Smoothie, I use a whole peeled orange along with shredded carrots, Bob’s Red Mill flaxseed, fresh ginger, lemon juice and Bob’s Red Mill protein powder.

The ripe, juicy orange adds just the right amount of tangy sweetness to balance out the sweet carrots, spicy ginger and tart lemon juice.

For a boost of omega-3 fatty acids, protein and fiber, I blend whole flaxseeds into the mix. Before serving I’ll sprinkle in a few additional flaxseeds which give the smoothie a little crunchy texture.

As a reminder, your body can’t digest whole flaxseeds so if you aren’t blending them you’ll want to use ground flaxseed meal instead. This is a great option for oatmeal, muffins, pancakes and more.

Another secret to a powerful smoothie is to use high-quality protein powder. Otherwise, you’ll really just drinking a large glass of carbohydrates which won’t keep you full for very long.
Bob’s Red Mill has a variety of protein powder flavors (including vegan options!) but I decided to use vanilla for this recipe. Use whatever you have on hand!

Your straw is waiting.
