When it comes to cocktails, I love them light, refreshing and not too sweet. Whether it’s for happy hour with my girlfriends on my back deck or a relaxing Saturday night in with my husband, I love getting creative with mixology such as this vanilla cherry twist on the classic vodka soda cocktail.

Made with just a few simple ingredients and low in sugar and calories, a vodka soda the perfect way to treat yourself without breaking the calorie bank. I believe firmly in moderation, which is why I created so many lighter, healthier versions of my favorite recipes such as my Skinny Grapefruit Margarita.

Spring is the perfect time to make an afternoon more enjoyable with a flavorful cocktail. Feel free to throw in a cute straw or garnish and enjoy.

How to Make Cherry Vanilla Vodka Soda

    adding vodka to glasses

Pour your favorite vanilla vodka over ice. I tend to eyeball the amount, but feel free to measure exactly. I also prefer large ice cubes as they melt slower. They also won’t dilute the drink as quickly.

    adding cherry juice to glasses

I add just a bit of maraschino cherry juice to each glass, but not too much. It’s a pretty potent syrup and you don’t need much at all to get the cherry flavor.

    adding soda to glasses

Add plain club soda or your favorite flavored soda water to each glass. I love Limoncello! I’ll also squeeze a bit of fresh lime juice too before garnishing.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just use regular vodka?

Of course, but then it would just be a cherry vodka soda. ;) If you don’t have vanilla vodka, you could add a few drops of vanilla extract to get that cherry vanilla flavor.

    How strong is this drink?

This answer depends on what vodka you use and how you mix your cocktail, but generally one ounce of 40% hard liquor (like vodka) is a standard drink. This recipe calls for two ounces per drink.

How can I turn this drink into a virgin cocktail or mocktail?

Omit the vanilla vodka and replace with a few drops of vanilla extract, or use cream soda instead. Be sure to note the changes in nutrition facts.
