Pouring milk over quick banana oatmeal with flax.

My kids ask for oatmeal almost every morning for breakfast. Naturally sweetened with ripe bananas and full of whole grain oats, I couldn’t be happier to comply with their request with my Quick Banana Oatmeal with Flax. While you certainly could make this over the stove top, I always make it in the microwave to avoid dirtying a pan, and to save time!

Ingredients

  • Oats: I like to use old-fashioned oats so that I can make it quickly in the microwave.
  • Milk: I usually use whole milk, but you can use any dairy-free milk as well to make this dish vegan.
  • Banana: A little creamy and naturally very sweet, I like to use bananas to sweeten my oatmeal and smoothies so I don’t have to use any added sweeteners!
  • Flax seed meal: Basically flavorless, but full of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and protein!
  • Cinnamon: A little bit of warmth and depth of flavor for the oatmeal.

How to Make Quick Banana Oatmeal with Flax

Start your quick banana oatmeal with flax by putting your oats and ground flaxseed into a large microwave safe bowl.

Add the cinnamon and just a pinch of salt, then pour in your milk or water.

Slice your banana and add it to the bowl, then stir everything together. Cook in the microwave for 3 minutes, then stir again.

Serve topped with fresh fruit, some pecans or walnuts, and enjoy your quick banana oatmeal with flax!

Mix It Up

  • Add more fruit. We love to add fresh or frozen berries to this oatmeal as well. Blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries all taste great with the banana!
  • Make it sweeter. If you like your oatmeal sweeter, you can always use some honey or maple syrup to sweeten it up without adding processed sugars.
  • Shake up the flavors. Banana goes with everything! Add some peanut butter, chocolate chips,

Hi Liz, I noticed the link to the flax seed meal ingredient takes one to Amazon.com for Bob’s Red Mill Organic Golden Flaxseed Meal. The only flax seed meal I have in my pantry is Bob’s Red Mill Whole Ground Flaxseed Meal. Will this recipe work with Whole Ground flax seed meal? TIA
