This easy maple and brown sugar oatmeal recipe is ready in just 90 seconds and is naturally gluten free!

My boys eat oatmeal almost every morning for a few simple reasons: it’s ready in 90 seconds, nutritious, affordable and delicious. What more can one ask for in a healthy breakfast recipe?

While I love making oatmeal on the stovetop or in the slow cooker, I definitely make it in the microwave most frequently. If you think you need a store-bought packet of instant oatmeal to have it ready in 90 seconds, think again.

Making your own homemade instant oatmeal is as simple as mixing together 1/2 cup oats and 1/2 cup milk in a bowl then adding in whatever nutrient-boosters and flavors you wish. Since my boys love maple and brown sugar, I decided to add in a tablespoon of each, along with omega-3 rich flaxseed meal and a pinch of salt.

Before serving, I love to add in whatever fresh fruit I have on hand such as bananas, berries, peaches or mango. Pro Tip: stirring in frozen berries before serving is a great way to quickly cool down the oatmeal so that little ones don’t burn their tongues.

Want to add spices? Cinnamon, nutmeg and cocoa powder are always a great way to add even more flavor. No matter how you make your oatmeal, just make it your own.
Your spoon is waiting.

30 grams of sugar in one bowl! Goodness.
You can reduce the sugar by eliminating maple and brown sugar. :) I like bananas too!
